Welcome back! Last week we talked about how 4TelecomHelp was built around a work-from-anywhere philosophy, and how that has proven to be a strong benefit to our company and its employees. We touched on a few of the benefits to employees when they can work from anywhere. Benefits like ditching the commute, saving money, eating healthier and most importantly, having a better work/life balance. If you have not yet checked out the post, you can read it here.
It’s not just the employees that benefit. As part of the management team at 4TelecomHelp, I believe we have always been a better company because of our work from anywhere policies.
Access to Talent. Because we are completely remote, when we need to hire new employees, we are not bound to candidates within driving range of an office. While we do often hire people who live around one of our two offices, we are not restricted to only employees around one of our offices. We can find the best people for our needs, regardless of where in the country they live.
Lower Overhead. There are cost savings to be found in every corner when the employee base is remote. Electricity bills, internet and phone services, rent, break room snacks and coffee supplies, and cleaning costs to name a few. Renting space when we want to have meetings is far more cost effective.
Better Employees. Happier employees make for better employees. People are more willing to do extra work, to work off hours when needed, or even simply just reply to an email on the weekend when they work from home. Their office is steps away, which means if you need them to do something outside of the normal expectations, they are more willing to help because it’s less of an inconvenience or intrusion into their personal time.
Healthier Employees. Right now, this could not be more relevant to the COVID-19 discussion. Even though many of us are only thinking about this idea now, the spread of germs and illness has always been an issue in the workplace. Dedicated people will often come to work, either because they do not want to use PTO or because they need to do tasks to not fall behind at work. One employee coming to work with the common cold can easily become a chain reaction.
COVID-19 robbed many out there of their ability to plan for this transition and adjusting to a Work-From-Anywhere environment has not been easy, for both employees and employers, as a result. In the long run, the rewards, when leveraged properly, far outweighs the risks and effort.
